CLEANING TIPS

Cleaning Tips for:

Residential Carpet

Since 1990, 90% of all carpet installed in consumer homes has been 5th generation, stain resistant nylon. A few existing cleaning restrictions include: no water base detergents over the pH of 10, no solvents for overall cleaning (spotting only) and no pesticides, sanitizers or disinfectant solutions to be used. All of these products lead to degradation of the stain resisting quality of the carpet. The following process is appropriate for 5th generation nylon, other synthetics and wool carpeting. If in doubt, pretest for effectiveness and safety in an inconspicuous area of the carpet.

Steps:

  1. Thoroughly dry vacuum the carpet to be cleaned, using your Aqua-Air dry vacuum tools and attachments.

  2. Mix carpet and fabric pre-spray (SC01GL) according to directions in pump sprayer (AS01, AS05 or AS16) and dampen soiled carpet. Coverage will vary, 300-500 sq. ft. per 2 quarts, depending on the soil level.

  3. Allow to dwell on surface for 10-15 minutes.

  4. Using the carpet-cleaning wand, move forward and back, spraying the carpet with hot/warm water and extract soil and water. Repeat back and forward motion 2-4 times until carpet is clean. After cleaning a small section of carpet, go over freshly cleaned area with vacuum part only. If residual soil and moisture exist, repeat back and forward motion process 1-2 times.

  5. Groom the carpet as necessary with carpet rake/groomer.

  6. Allow carpet to dry, with minimal use. Most residential carpet will dry in 4-6 hours. Some situations may require over night drying. You can speed up the drying process by using fans and increasing room air temperature. Opening windows will help if outside air is warm with low humidity.

  7. Apply ''Carpet Protector" per instructions.

Commercial Carpet

There are many different commercial environments from restaurants to office buildings and everything in-between. The largest majority will be synthetic carpets and responsive to the following procedure. Pretest procedure in an inconspicuous area for effectiveness and safety.

Steps:

  1. Remove larger soils (i.e. napkins, straws, paper clips, coins and food chunks etc.)

  2. Dry vacuum carpet to be cleaned using appropriate Aqua-Air tools for your application, see your Aqua-Air dealer for more information.

  3. Pre-spray soiled area of carpet with heavy duty carpet & auto interior (SC02GL). Dilute per instructions on label and apply with pump sprayer (AS01, AS05 or AS16). The carpet should be damp enough to stay wet to the touch for 20 minutes.

  4. Allow to dwell 15-20 minutes before extraction.

  5. Moving the carpet wand forward and back, spray and extract carpet until clean. After completing a small section of the room, stop: Spray rinse and go over area with final extraction pass. Note; If your system has been installed with a chemical injector (AA031 or AA033), then your rinse water may be mixed with either, bio-enyme cleaner/deodorizer (SC05GL) or extraction rinse (SC03GL) to increase cleaning capabilities. The chemical injection system is normally recommended for commercial applications. See your Aqua-Air dealer for additional information.

  6. Groom carpet as necessary with carpet rake/groomer.

  7. Allow drying. Using drying fans or a ventilation system and warm air will speed the drying time.

  8. Apply "Carpet Protector" per instructions.

Hardwood Floors

Most natural hardwood has been coated with a urethane or wax finish. Chemical residues left behind by household and commercial cleaners can prematurely damage these finishes. Using the Aqua- Air Wet/Dry® process will help ensure extended life and appearance of your hardwood floor.

Steps:

  1. Dry vacuum larger debris if necessary (small amounts of crumbs, grit or particles will be easily removed in the wet process and don't need prevacuuming).

  2. Dilute hard surface cleaner (SC04GL) according to "hardwood" instructions on the label.

  3. Lightly mist diluted solution on the hardwood floor.

  4. Using the soft brush and squeegee attachment on the wand, mist floor with hot/warm rinse water and use brush to lightly agitate soiled areas. Extract soil and water with squeegee head and suction. Repeat if necessary.

  5. Floor will be instantaneously dry and ready for use (No chemical residue)

Tile & Grout Floor (Residential)

Same as "hardwood floor" except cleaning solution may be diluted less to increase strength.

Tile & Grout Floor (Restaurant Kitchen or Similar Floor)

Heavy soil conditions usually apply in restaurant situations and will usually require these additional steps.

Steps:

  1. Use a broom and dust pan to collect larger debris such as, food pieces, straws, napkins etc. Food crumbs and greasy residues will be removed in the wet process.

  2. Dilute hard surface cleaner (SC04GL) as per instructions and generously wet down floor with ready-to-use cleaning solution.

  3. In heavy soil conditions a deck/scrubbing brush should be used to scrub solution and soil on the floor.

  4. Using the wand with commercial brush and squeegee attachment, spray floor with rinse water and squeegee dry. Repeat as necessary. Note; If your system has been installed with the chemical injector (AA031 or AA033), then the rinse water should be mixed with bio-enzyme cleaner/deodorizer (SC05GL). This will increase cleaning, odor control and help keep the vacuum piping and power unit fresh.

  5. Tile and grout will be clean and instantaneously dry.

Linoleum, Vinyl, Stone, Concrete etc.

All of these surfaces can and should be cleaned using the Aqua-Air Wet/Dry® process. These surfaces should be cleaned using the "hardwood" or "tile & grout" procedures previously outlined. The procedures should vary slightly from those printed, depending on location and soil conditions.

Auto Interior Carpet & Upholstery
The same procedures should be followed for either private use or service performed by a professional.

Steps:

  1. Thoroughly dry vacuum carpet and upholstery. Use crevice tools etc. to reach soil. Note; Auto interiors are usually heavily soiled and wetting unvacuumed dry soil, turns it to mud and makes it more difficult to remove. Prevacuum well!

  2. Generously pre-spray carpet & upholstery with heavy duty carpet & auto interior pre-spray (SC02GL). Dilute per instructions.

  3. Allow to dwell 15-20 minutes to break down soils. Agitating with scrub brush (AB14) may accelerate this process.

  4. Using your Aqua-Air Wet/Dry® upholstery tool. Spray hot/warm rinse and extract using a forward & back motion until clean. Re-vacuum same area to pick as much soil moisture as possible.

  5. Allow drying. Use fans to accelerate drying.

  6. Apply "Carpet Protector" to carpet and fabric seats per instructions.
